OVULATION TESTS

Ovulation Tests - Choose and Use Right

A woman knows she is about to conceive by a natural instinct. However, one shouldn’t rely simply on the intuition, especially in such an important matter. That is why ovulation tests (both personal and laboratory) are so popular. There are the so-called predictor kits available so that a woman can use them for simple menstrual cycle calculations.

Well, it is not very easy to explain ovulation in simple words without any medical terms. Ovulation is a sort of interplay of glands and their hormones. Blood tests are used to reveal progesterone presence and to analyze its level. If the level exceeds 20nmol per liter, it’s a clear indicator that the ovulation have occurred. It is recommended to perform blood test in around 3-10 days before the menstruation begins.

Another ovulation test method is the ultrasound test. It is used to confirm the presence of a fetus. However it is better to use pelvic ultrasound rather than pregnancy ultrasound as the latter is not advisable for those women who are trying to conceive.

There are some other methods and varieties of ovulation tests like checking the cervical mucous deviations, basal body temperature or salivary ferning that is applied in 3-4 days before the ovulation is planned to begin.

Ovulation tests are now becoming more and more popular with women. They use these ovulation calendars and prediction kits to avoid unplanned pregnancies by tracking fertile periods. Usually ovulation takes place in the middle of the menstrual cycle, but it depends on many factors. Rarely ovulation may happen twice a month and sometimes it may never appear, especially if a woman has problems with her health.

When going through an ovulation test (no matter what method you’ve chosen), avoid drinking too much liquid to make urinating more rare. This will help the ovulation test to come up with better and more accurate results.

If you use a urine ovulation test, try early morning urine for the sample. If it’s impossible and you want to go through the test during the day, don’t urinate for several hours to get the corresponding sample. Regular ovulation tests for personal use display results in 5-10 minutes.

It is very important to run the ovulation test accordingly to the references and instructions that are usually bundled with the test itself.
